Back in 1996 Channel 3 North East (known to most as Tyne Tees) launched its new flagship news programme, North East Tonight With Mike Neville. For reasons lost in the midst of time, someone did a remix of the theme tune. I've no idea who or why, but found it recently whilst clearing out some folders. And it deserves to be shared.

In 1996 the BBC ran this trailer extolling the fact that the BBC believes great comedy comes from allowing people to take risks. In the style of a "coming up this autumn" type of trailer, it features Reeves and Mortimer in a series of spoof shows such as "Detective in a Wheelbarrow", "Three Blokes in a Bath" and "Poldark on Mopeds". Channel 4 Father Ted Ident (1996)

From Christmas 1996, one of a series of continuity pieces from Channel 4 featuring Father Dougal and Father Ted from (of course) Father Ted. In this one, there's someone at the door... Audio quality is rather poor due to coming from a dodgy VHS tape, and being recorded in "Long Play".
I gotta hand it to Tyne Tees. While everybody else was using brass sections, Tyne Tees went way ahead of them and embarked on the synthesizer route. So dope and way ahead of its time.
Wish the Catherine Cookson movies came out in the 80's with the ident preceding them.
The music for this sounded dope. Everything about it was so cool. Wish they had something similar for the long running blue screen Granada ident from the 1970's and 1980's.
When I hear this I automatically wait on supergran starting.

I was born and raised in Leicestershire until the I was 12 then moved to Somerset afterwards in 1992 so my go-to memories of idents are Central and HTV but I must admit… I love the TTTV Ident, especially because of Super Gran (God bless Gudrun Ure) and Dramarama… such amazing childhood memories!

Back when ITV contractors were proud of themselves
For me this distinctive ident will always be remembered for heralding the start of Supergran! Showing my age there. Those were the days when Newcastle was a significant producer of networked programmes. Not anymore. ITV plc has pretty much decimated output from the regions. Very sad.
For me it reminds me of Chain Letters with the late Jeremy Beadle
@@davidtownson1476 Yes, I remember that one and also Supergran and the Catherine Cookson adaptations.
ITV only make Coronation St, Emmerdale and a few factual programmes outside of London now. There are still the local news bulletins, but in some regions these are very cheap and amateurish.
Top notch ident.
I worked at Tyne Tees from 1980 to 2009 and as I'm biased anyway.....This was my favourite station ident. Can't imagine how much I'd have if I had £1 for everytime I heard this being played whilst walking through the building, when programmes being recorded or programmes going out live such as Farming Outlook, Razzmataz, Friday Live etc.
What did you think of its successor, the "Flowing Rivers" logo? Personally, that was very good and it was a shame it lasted for such as short time.

i'm Dutch. Not familiar with Tyne Tees or station idents at all and i absolutely LOVE this one, the graphics and the music are so early 80s i want to go and play my C64.

self correction...1979 was the change over year from 1970 to the new one.A MASSIVE mistake if you ask me. The Northumbrian pipes on the earlier one were SO distinctive of the regions heritage.

NOT 1979 at all. In 1979 they were still using the 1970 ident as seen elsewhere on YT.
IIRC this TTT ident was introduced after the ITV strike ended in late October
Reminds me a lot of the old Viacom idents at the end of TV shows.

Good question. No idea, but in the past they had a habit of decamping to the World News studio. Wonder if that's what they did here
@Ярослав Гайворонський No, maybe N6 had a 1993 set, so, News 24 was at N9 at Stage 5
They temporarily came from a set in a different part of the newsroom overlooking the balcony (where overnights came from).
This ended in 1964.

This fantastic trailer was pretty accurate at the time about the BBC allowing writers and performers to "take risks". It's nothing less than a tragedy what the BBC has become in such a short time since.
Too true, The BBC is now afraid to take risks, mainly because of political correctness and the media backlash it faces when someone on TV says or does anything the slightest bit controversial. The British public have become over-sensitive, and it's killing tv comedy.
Big night out was on Channel 4.
